These packages form part of your preparedness. They do not provide automatic backup power for an entire house. Runtime depends on load and conditions; solar charging varies with weather and season. Charging between units must follow the manufacturers’ instructions and the generator’s continuous power rating.
Start with one week
Swedish authorities advise those who can to prepare to manage everyday life for at least one week. Build your preparedness gradually and adapt it to your household’s needs.
-
Water and food. Store drinking water and long-life foods you normally eat. Also plan for pets and cooking without electricity.
-
Warmth and light. Keep blankets, warm clothes, torches and batteries ready.
-
Information. Keep a battery-powered radio for Sveriges Radio P4 and important phone numbers on paper.
-
Health and everyday needs. Review essential medicines, first aid, hygiene supplies and payment options.
-
Community. Talk to neighbours about what you can share and who may need help.
Do something today: fill a water container, charge your power bank and discuss how your family will keep in touch.
Plan your backup power
- List the most important things that need electricity.
- Check power requirements, starting current and desired runtime.
- Choose equipment and test it according to its instructions before an outage.
Use safely. Petrol generators must be used outdoors, with exhaust directed away from people, doors, windows and ventilation. Never use them indoors or in garages. Never feed backup power into a normal wall socket. To connect to a building’s fixed electrical installation, use a registered electrical installation company. Always follow the manufacturer’s instructions.
You are part of Sweden’s preparedness
Civil defence aims to keep society functioning during the threat of war and in wartime. Authorities, businesses, organisations and residents all contribute. Household preparedness, critical evaluation of information and connections with others strengthen our collective ability.
Familiarise yourself with municipal information and any local safety hubs. Read the authorities’ brochure If Crisis or War Comes and discuss how the advice applies to your everyday life.
